Corky the Cradle Cat

Meet: Corky the Cradle Cat
Vote For Me!
March 20th, 2012 CATS Cradle Shelter rescued a beautiful 7 month old kitten from the Moorhead Pound. We were told by the staff at the pound that he was found dragging himself down a sidewalk on Main Avenue in Moorhead. The moment that we saw him we knew that there was something familiar about him. Just one month prior to this we had received a phone call from a young woman who claimed to have rescued a 6 month old kitten that matches Corkys description exactly from a neglectful situation, this kitten had "backwards and crisscrossed legs" to quote her. We agreed to meet the woman at 10AM the next morning to take this kitten in. We immediately made arrangements for radiographs at NDSU. Once the arrangements were made with NDSU a return call was made to the woman to confirm our 10am appointment for the next day. Well, she never showed up, we repeatedly called her to find out if there was a problem, but she never answered and never returned any of our messages. After days of frustration at not being able to contact this woman, we had to let it go, and hope that this woman would do the right thing by this kitten and provide for him.
Fast forward to March 20th, 2012 and the day we got the call from the pound. The only thing that needs to be said here is once we saw him, we instinctively KNEW that this was our guy from the phone call a month earlier. What a relief, we finally had him...but how did he end up in the pound? We still do not have that answer, as I went back into our phone log and called the young womans number who originally called us, and her number was no longer in use. I guess that is a question we may never know the answer to. The only thing we do know for sure is that Corky would have been euthanized if left in the pound. Once we took custody of him he was transported immediately to NDSU for the radiographs, and examined by the staff veterinarians. After a search for a qualified vet we found Dr. Burchill who performed the Bilateral Arthrodesis of the Tarsus on Thursday, April 5th, 2012. The following Monday there were some issues with swelling and he had to have a procedure to release fluid from his paws and legs. His left leg had some constriction which caused some nerve damage and the incision opened which needed a skin graft with ACell, a porcine product. Utimately the graft did not take due to necrosis and the difficult decision had to be made to amputate the troublesome leg which was done on Thursday April 26th three weeks to the day from his original surgery. Corky was hospitalized from April 5th until April 30th, the majority of that time was spent on various types of therapy to try and save that left leg. I am happy to report that Corky has been released from the hospital, is now living in with a CATS Cradle Shelter Director and her family and seems to be doing just fine, in fact his spirits are better now than they were before. He seems happy, playful, and alert, and enjoys playing with his 3 canine siblings and 3 feline siblings. While he has a long road ahead of him to build muscle in his lower body and strength in his remaining rear leg, he is beginning to use his leg more and more every day and we feel that Corky will have a wonderful quality of life full of love with limitless opportunities to help unite the world in the plight of rescue. We are now TEAM CORKY!
Corky has garnered world fame, he has had over 100 articles written on him by various media outlets, from MSN, CNN, AOL.com, Yahoos homepage, Huffington Post, YOU Magazine, and many many more, he has been on tv shows "Right This Minute" twice and has even been mentioned on Australian TV Soap Opera "Neughbours" which has been on the air since 1985. He has friends from all over the world and is grateful for each and every one of them.

Ooops, here is the right one https://www.facebook.com/CorkyTheCradleCat
Corky has touched so many people just because of his determination. He's like the kids story "the little engine that could". I love hearing about his progress & look 4ward 2 the fb posts.
I always spent my half an hour to read this website's posts all the time along with a mug of coffee.
We love the Corkster at our house and wish him the best! We even have a cat that looks like Corky and his name is Squeaker!
I have followed his story and shared with different people who don't have or use face book and they can't believe the courage of this little fellow. He is an inspiration to all that who know his story and should think twice before the put down one of there own without trying to see if they can be saved.
What an inspiration!! I have a cat Millie who doesn't have back feet. One leg is longer than the other. She was brought to an animal shelter at four weeks. It is believed the umbilical cord was wrapped around her legs and the mother chewed it off, chewing her feet off as well. I thought she was an inspiration till I met you!
Your kitty is lucky to have you. Thank you for looking past what she doesn't have and seeing what she does have. Love =^ .. ^=
love you Corky!! -- from the proud momma of 5 kitty cats!
What a beautiful kitty! It's great to know this little guy got a second chance and the veterinary care he needed. Best of all, he now has the life every kitty deserves and he knows what it means to be loved!
Corky is a very handsome cat. Bright eyes and alert to his environment. I bet he's smart, too! Thanks for saving him.
I remember reading something about this precious cat and the jist of it was that his deformaty is most likely the result of inbreeding, which is most likely a result of un-spayed and un-neutered cats roaming around reproducing with their own kin. Moral of this story: Don't Litter! Spay & Neuter Your Critter!
tears are filling up my eyes, they are from tears of sadness as well as joy. I thank Jehovah the God I believe in for having kindness and endearing love to beautiful little companions and those who care for them. Sending a hug to the corkster from my two furballs apache hiawatha and his brother Spekkula Wilhemus.
I don't get it, you have only been in the contest for like 5 days and u average like 1000 votes a day! Something smells fishy
Nothing fishy (unless it's Mr. Cork's dinner...)
There's a large (almost 15,000 people) community on Facebook that's been following The Corky Saga for quite a while, and, well... that sort of translates into considerable oomph! when they all land in the same spot.
Nothing fishy--this cat is known around the world...Did you not read his story? Corky's facebook page has close 15,000 people following his progress on a daily basis--he's an inspiration to many. His surgery was funded solely by donations, it's not a surprise that so many people have voted for him already. Your post is a bit offensive--Cat's Cradle and their staff are amazing people. I just voted like i do every day!!! Go TEAM CORKY!!!!!
Arnold, unless you have an evidence. Otherwise, your comment is not called for and unethical. Keep in mind Corky's has 14000 followers, if you ever bother to go to Corky's facebook. If everyone votes just once, Corky should have 14,000 votes already.
Whats there to get? Everybody loves Corky. Hes been very publicized and an inspiration to all that have any handicap or disability or any hardship in their life. We in Fargo area know hardship with all flooding in the past years and know a hero when we see one. Whoever wins, Corky is still our winner!!
Corky you have my vote and it was number 5,600. You are winning by much much more than a whisker!!!!
Stop cheating we know who you are and what you are doing! Its impossible to get all those votes in 3 days!! we are telling you on the magazine people
Once again stop looking for conspiracy where there aren't any, the people voting here just love Corky, all 5000+.
Who in the world would accuse an adorable special kitty like Corky, and the people that love him, of cheating? Even if he DIDN'T have a Fb page and thousands of fans to help make it obvious why he has so many votes, that's still pretty mean behavior. >:(
I so want you to win, Corky. You're such a brave and beautiful little kitty! <3 <3 <3
